Choosing fruits for the organic fruit roll-ups

Almost any fruit will make a great fruit roll. Can combine most fruits with other foods.

Some fruits, such as apples, are rich in pectin and fiber and have excellent texture when dried. The combinations are endless. Use your imagination and have fun!

Use fresh fruit in season. You can also use fruits that are slightly overripe, irregularly shaped, or dented somewhat fruits that are not suitable for canning or drying.

Some fruits, such as citrus fruits, should be used with other fruits. Citrus fruits are high in liquid and low in the pulp. If you find that the fruit is too runny, mix it with an apple or other similar fruit to give it more consistency.

Frozen fruits can also, although they tend to be thinner. Just defrost and follow the directions for fresh fruit.

Preparing organic fruit roll ups

Wash the fruit and cut off any wrinkled or damaged parts. Next, puree the fruit in a blender until very smooth. In some blenders with some fruits, you can add a little juice or water to start the blending process.

Usually, fruit rolls do not need to be sweetened. If the fruit is unripe or tart, light corn syrup or honey can be added. Add one or more tablespoons of sweetener to every quart of puree, depending on your preference. Sugar added to fruit skins tends to become brittle during storage.

Add toppings

For more variety, sprinkle the organic fruit roll-ups with different side dishes before drying. For example, try coconut, chopped dates, nuts, raisins, muesli, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or sunflower seeds. When using these side dishes, fruit rolls should always be refrigerated.

Cooking rolls in a food dehydrator

Place the fruit roll sheet on the dehydrator tray and lightly spray with pastry spray to prevent sticking. The puree should be about 1⁄4 to 3⁄8 inch thick, spread evenly, and dry at 130-140 °F (55-60 °C) until the fruit is leathery and pliable, about 4 to 8 clocks. There should be no sticky spots on top or under the fruit. Remove the skin while still warm, roll out, cut into smaller pieces and wrap in plastic wrap.

Storage organic fruit roll-ups

Should store separately wrapped pieces of fruit skin in larger sealed and moisture-proof containers. I prefer to keep the fruit rolls in the refrigerator to last longer and don’t stick to the packaging.

Pumpkin roll — Organic fruit roll-ups

All pumpkin lovers have a very simple recipe for making an unusually tasty dessert — pumpkin roll. A very limited amount of vegetables has as many nutrients as pumpkin contains. The result is a tasty and healthy sweetness exclusively from natural products that can replace any candy.

Pumpkin roll

Ingredients:

  • Pumpkin — 2.3 kg (1.5 kg is peeled)
  • Sugar — 100 g (can be adjusted depending on the sweetness of the pumpkin)
  • Lemon — 2 pcs
  • Honey — 3-4 tbsp
  • Cinnamon (sticks) — 2 pcs

Instructions:

  1. Peel the pumpkin and remove the seeds. It is better not to throw away the seeds, but to dry and feast on them. I love using butternut squash in organic fruit rolls.
  2. Cut the pumpkin into small pieces, add sugar and cinnamon sticks. Mix well. By the way, you can flavor the pumpkin according to your own taste, you can add cinnamon, you can add cloves, you can add vanilla.
  3. Add lemon juice, stir again and leave for 20-30 minutes. The pumpkin will start up the juice, and then put it on low heat. The pumpkin should be stewed until soft.
  4. When the pumpkin is completely boiled, add honey (and lemon zest, if desired). Now the pumpkin needs to be mashed (it is better to do this with an immersion blender) and cooled to room temperature.
  5. Place pumpkin puree no thicker than 0.4 ” on a roll tray and flatten. Use a parchment or roll-up tool and spray with cooking spray. I love thin organic fruit rolls, so I never put a thick layer on, and you will be guided by your taste. Remember that thicker layers will take significantly longer to dry.
  6. Dry in an electric dryer at 140 F (60 C) for 6-8 hours. Roll the dried оrganic fruit roll-ups or cut them into slices and store them in a tightly closed container.

If you add chopped walnuts to the puree, it will turn out even tastier. I like to add different nuts and make the fillings for fruit rolls in the form of nut butter or a mixture of dried fruits.

Notes

For a brighter taste, you can add an apple. Finally, add your favorite nuts for a crisp texture. Make a nut butter filling, and you will get a great dessert that you can present to your friends for any occasion.
